I was talking with a friend the week before Katsucon, and he told me-like many many cosplayers do-that he'd forgotten to make a costume and only had three days to do it. Of course, it didn't work for him, but I became intrigued by the idea. Could I make a well made cosplay completely from scratch in only three days? I can't resist such a challenge. My only problem is what to cosplay? I have a few costumes in mind, but couldn't decide which I wanted. So I decided get some input. Leave a comment below or head over to my facebook page www.facebook.com/polillacostum… and give me your feedback there. Whichever costume has the most votes will be the one I make, and I'll post progress of the construction on facebook.

The Wig in the Refrigerator
So I've spent the last two days in Chatanuga, TN at a theatre conference called SETC. It's pretty much a convention for theater people: industry professionals showing off their wares, looking for new hires, giving panels on stuff, theater schools doing interviews, etc. I went for the costume design competition, and while I didn't win an award (I mean, it was 16th century Romeo and Juliet. I wasn't expecting to win anything), I did learn some serious cool stuff about costuming.
Which leads to the wig in the refrigerator. Best tip I received all weekend: if you buy a wig used, put it in the freezer. Particularly for cosplayers, buying used is
Otakon 2014 Fun! Fun! Fun! Zzzzzzz.....
Got home from Otakon yesterday. Super fun but super exhausting-more so than usual. Didn't enter the masquerade this year. I just wanted to watch, do some research on the level of cosplay there, and make notes to prepare for next year. I'm like a costuming assassin or a politician.......neither of those are good things, are they? Forget I said that. I'm more like the nerd guy from Kill la Kill with the data suit. All the data. All the time. Saw Yaya Han. Didn't talk to her. I got about ten feet away, looked at the line at her booth, and went "meh. Ten feet is close enough". Wish I had seen her in costume though.
And now the news:
I did Pearl
Just Wanted to Say Thank You
I wanted to say thank you to everyone. I haven't reached some crazy milestone in page views. I don't have a hundred subscribers. I haven't hit 50 favorites. But in the last several months since I've started posting my costume work, I FEEL like I've hit a milestone. I've had more views, comments, favorites, and watches in the last several months than in the rest of my seven years on deviantart. Ok, not really. Seven years is a lot. But seriously, when you've had seven years and who knows how many uploads, the numbers really aren't that impressive. And that's ok. That means I've grown as an artist. And I'm so thankful that other people have not
Next Time on In Trouble Abroad: My Mother
Do other people get those weird texts from their moms? The ones that come out of nowhere that make you blink more rapidly than you usually do when you read them?
About a week ago, I get this:
Mom: Hi sweetie! Going to Costa Rica with Brad tomorrow morning! If there's an emergency, call your brother!
And yes, my mother's grammar on text messages is impeccable.
And it DID make me blink and hold the phone back a little, but I don't ask. Not until I haven't heard from her in a week and wonder if she just up and died and no one's figured out how to tell me yet. And so I get this:
Mom: Hi sweetie! Yes, I'm home! Brad proposed to me on the boat
